MORE THAN A MILLION ARTEFACTS AND THE LARGEST ARCHAEOLOGICAL DIG IN VICTORIAN HISTORY!

In 2018, ahead of excavation works for the Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project, archaeologists and heritage experts used excavators, shovels and hand trowels to sift through layers of rock and soil to uncover archaeological remains and artefacts.

The Metro Tunnel Project uncovered Melbourne’s rich history and has unearthed more than half a million artefacts from the city’s past. Some artefacts date back more than 180 years to the early days of European settlement in Melbourne.

In early 2020, ArchLink was engaged by Andrew Long Associates to undertake the artefact analysis for part of the assemblage excavated during the Metro Tunnel Project.

This project is a large-scale artefact analysis project for which ArchLink has brought in additional artefact specialists; Zvonka Stanin, Natalie Paynter and Felicity Buckingham.
