EDGARS CREEK
THOMASTOWN

The City of Whittlesea proposed the construction of a shared path for bike riders and pedestrians located along the eastern banks of Edgars Creek, in Thomastown, north of the city of Melbourne. Due to its proximity to a named waterway, ArchLink was commissioned to undertake a CHMP. Located within the West Victorian Volcanic Plains geomorphic unit, this site resides within the country of the
Woi wurrung language group and the Wurundjeri Willam clan lived traditionally on these lands until approximately the mid-nineteenth century.

It has been argued by some that Edgars Creek is one of the possible locations of the signing of Batman’s Treaty (though most identify the banks of the Merri Creek as the most likely site).

No Aboriginal archaeological material was identified during the survey and excavation.
