Kate Tidswell

Archaeologist

BA in Archaeology, Monash University (2023)

Kate completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Monash University, with a major study in Archaeology and Ancient History and a minor study in Anthropology in 2023. Kate was involved in the photographic recording and illustration of historical artefacts for the Metro Rail Tunnel project. She is trained to undertake all aspects of our projects including field work, report writing, and mapping.

As an archaeologist, Kate works in the field supporting our senior staff as well as at the office cataloguing and photographing artefacts and undertaking general research for our projects. She is a valued member of our report writing team and has assisted with the preparation of heritage assessments and cultural heritage management plans (CHMP).

Kate is interested in the intersection of archaeology and lived experience. She values how the lives of individuals are reflected, communicated, and experienced through the landscape and a relationship with the natural environment. In particular, Kate has a regard for Aboriginal Australian lithic tool tradition, and an interest in how the production and use of stone tools frames the knowledges, experiences, and practices of the lives of many.

In July 2023, Kate undertook a three-week excavation of the Ancient Roman site of Carsulae, Italy. She is excited to continue developing her field skills and gain experience in Australian archaeology.
