Survey & Site Recording

Any planned development or construction project often requires the necessary approvals in accordance with both Aboriginal and historical heritage legislation before it can move forward. These approvals are essential in ensuring that the development complies with heritage regulations, protecting both Indigenous and historical sites.

At ArchLink, we can assist clients by identifying whether areas of cultural heritage sensitivity exist within the planned activity area. In certain cases, the commencement of the activity may require approvals and assessments under the Heritage Act 2017 and the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006. Both of these pieces of legislation play a critical role in safeguarding heritage sites, and understanding how they apply to your project is vital for ensuring compliance.

Our services include a detailed investigation of your activity area to determine the potential presence of heritage, whether Indigenous or historical. This process includes, but is not limited to:

  • Ground Survey: Conducting on-site investigations to identify and document any artefacts, structures, features or places of significance.

  • Global Positioning System (GPS): Utilising advanced GPS technology to precisely map and record the locations of any identified sites or features.

  • Geographic Information System (GIS): Analysing the data using GIS software to create detailed spatial models and visualisations of the area to better understand potential sensitivities.

  • Consulting with the Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) or Traditional Owner (TO) group: Engaging with relevant cultural representatives to ensure that the RAP or TO are made aware of the survey. Their knowledge and advice are then integrated into the assessment process.

  • Documentation and Recording of Archaeological Heritage: Thoroughly documenting any new or potential archaeological findings, whether they are historical or Indigenous, ensuring compliance with relevant heritage laws

At ArchLink, we understand the complexities of cultural heritage management and can provide you with a comprehensive site assessment that addresses these critical aspects. Our team will ensure that your project complies with all necessary heritage legislation, minimising risks and facilitating a smooth approval process
